Available as Premium 5/4 decking or higher grade 2×6 decking, YellaWood Select® KDAT deck boards are kiln dried after treatment to get the lumber closer to its final moisture content and ready for finishing from day one. This also minimizes the wood’s natural tendency to shrink, cup and warp, and makes it easier to cut and handle during installation.

YellaWood Select® KDAT lumber is then hand-picked to have fewer imperfections for a cleaner surface, lighter natural color and a more refined finished look. With small, tight knots, virtually no bark edges and the natural warmth of real wood— it’s comfortable luxury at a cost better than composite.

YellaWood Select® KDAT lumber is available as Premium 5/4 decking and higher grade 2×6 decking. (Compared to YellaWood SuperSelect®, which uses C&Btr appearance grade.) Both YellaWood Select® and YellaWood SuperSelect® include hand-selected KDAT deck boards for enhanced clarity.

Premium

Premium grade lumber is focused on appearance without sacrificing strength. It has smaller, well-spaced knots and a more uniform grain compared to 5/4 Standard, for a refined surface with fewer imperfections. It often offers more consistent color from board to board. Some bark edges may remain. When considering KDAT deck boards for YellaWood Select® the decking with wane is excluded.

Available with radius milled edges, 5/4 Premium grade boards are thinner than standard 2×6 and have a smoother surface well-suited to stain or clear finishes.

Higher Grade

The higher grade lumber for YellaWood Select® is hand-picked to further improve its appearance. Because of the exceptional strength, density and stiffness, contractors can design with wider deck spans or smaller dimension boards to support larger loads.

YellaWood Select® KDAT decking boards are offered with radius milled edges, which work well with typical joist spacing and common deck layouts to keep planning and installation straightforward.

Radius Milled Edges:

Offering a slightly rounded or eased edge, these boards are smoother and designed to distribute stress more evenly. Radius milled edges provide a more comfortable surface and promote drainage between boards. They are the ideal match for YellaWood Select® KDAT lumber.

YellaWood Select® KDAT deck boards are MCA treated and kiln dried after the treatment process, which means each board is dried back to its original moisture content before it reaches the jobsite.

Kiln-Dried After Treatment (KDAT)

KDAT lumber is pressure-treated wood that has been kiln dried after the treatment process to remove excess moisture and bring the boards closer to their final, stable dimensions. This added step helps reduce shrinkage, warping, and movement after installation—making it a strong choice for projects where consistency and appearance matter.

To retain the benefits of KDAT lumber, we recommend you stain or seal it upon installation (no waiting period necessary). Once exposed to moisture, the decking will need to fully dry again (sprinkle test) before product can be applied.

YellaWood Select® 2×6 decking offers higher strength, more stiffness and increased holding power. It’s selected specifically for load-bearing applications (check your end tag for use guidelines).

Higher grades give these KDAT deck boards additional strength on the deck and on the frame. YellaWood Select® decking delivers both appearance and structural performance standards.
